Heat Network Efficiency Scheme (HNES) Demonstrator Case Studies

The HNES Demonstrator laid the foundations for the main HNES scheme. It consisted of one funding round, with funding awarded in December 2021.

The Heat Network Efficiency Scheme (HNES) Demonstrator was a £4.18 million grant scheme that ran throughout the 2021/22 financial year.

It was designed to support improvements to existing district or communal heating projects to deliver short-term and sustained efficiency improvements, reduce energy consumption and carbon emissions, and improve outcomes for customers and operators. The HNES Demonstrator subsequently laid the foundations for the main scheme, which opened to applications in 2023.

These Capital Works and Optimisation Study case studies relate to the HNES Demonstrator.
